# bitpdf > Merge, split and compress PDFs for free, right in your browser. No account, no watermark. Your documents never leave your device. bitpdf has two faces. The website runs entirely in the browser, and documents never leave the device. The API and the MCP server run on our server for AI agents and scripts: free, with no account and no API key. ## Tools - [Merge PDF](https://bitpdf.bitnoda.team/merge-pdf): Join several PDFs into one, in the order you choose. - [Split PDF](https://bitpdf.bitnoda.team/split-pdf): Pull out the pages you need: one range or many at once. - [Compress PDF](https://bitpdf.bitnoda.team/compress-pdf): The same document in a much smaller file. ## For agents - MCP server, Streamable HTTP, no authentication: https://bitpdf.bitnoda.team/mcp - [API and MCP guide](https://bitpdf.bitnoda.team/developers): how to connect, tools and limits - [OpenAPI description](https://bitpdf.bitnoda.team/openapi.json) - [Limits as JSON](https://bitpdf.bitnoda.team/v1/limits) ## Optional - [Full reference](https://bitpdf.bitnoda.team/llms-full.txt) - [Privacy](https://bitpdf.bitnoda.team/privacy) - [Romanian version](https://bitpdf.bitnoda.team/ro/) ## MCP tools - `merge_pdfs`: Join 2 to 20 PDFs in the order given. - `split_pdf`: Pull out page ranges, such as 1-5,10-12. - `compress_pdf`: Make a PDF smaller. Text stays exact. - `pdf_info`: Count the pages and measure the file. Each file is given as `{"url": "https://..."}` or `{"base64": "..."}`. Prefer url. Results come back as a download link with a 15 minute lifetime. Compression levels are light, balanced and strong. ## HTTP API POST multipart/form-data with the field `file` to get the file back, or JSON to get a link: ```bash curl -F file=@a.pdf -F file=@b.pdf https://bitpdf.bitnoda.team/v1/merge -o merged.pdf curl -F file=@book.pdf -F ranges=1-5,10-12 https://bitpdf.bitnoda.team/v1/split -o split.zip curl -F file=@scan.pdf -F level=strong https://bitpdf.bitnoda.team/v1/compress -o smaller.pdf curl -F file=@a.pdf https://bitpdf.bitnoda.team/v1/info ``` ## Limits - Size per job: 50 MiB - Output per job: 128 MiB - Files per job: 20 - Ranges per job: 50 - Jobs per hour, per address: 60 - Volume per hour, per address: 1 GiB - Jobs at once, per address: 2 - Link lifetime: 15 minutes Over a limit you get 429 with Retry-After. When every slot is busy you get 503. The site works in the browser and handles much larger files. ## Data Through the API a file reaches our server. It stays in RAM for the length of the job and is never written to disk. The result stays in RAM until its link expires. The engine runs isolated in a WebAssembly sandbox. We keep traffic data and numbers only: IP address, user agent, sizes, pages, duration. ## Questions ### Is bitpdf really free? Yes. Every tool is free, with no account, no watermark and no subscription. ### Do my files reach a server? Not when you use the site. Everything happens in your browser, with an engine written in Rust and running as WebAssembly. You can check in the Network tab of your browser. ### Does it work on a phone? Yes. The site is built for phones first and works in any current browser. Very large files need memory, so they run better on a computer. ### Which files can it not open? PDFs protected with an opening password. Remove the password and try again. ### How many PDFs can I merge for free? Up to 100 files at a time, 1.8 GB in total. The limit comes from what a browser can hold in memory. ### Can I reorder files or remove pages? Yes. Move files in the list on the left and remove any page from the preview before you merge. ### Does merging lower the quality? Text and graphics stay exact. Images are compressed at the level you choose. For the best quality, pick Light. ### Can I extract several ranges at once? Yes. Add as many ranges as you want and get each one as a separate PDF in a ZIP, or all of them in one PDF. ### How do I choose the pages? Click the first and last page on the preview, or type page numbers in the ranges panel. ### Do the resulting files get smaller? Yes. Each output keeps only what its pages use and is compressed automatically. ### How much smaller will my PDF get? It depends on the content. Scans and photo-heavy PDFs shrink a lot. A text-only PDF was small already, so it shrinks a little. ### Will the text stay sharp? Yes. Text and vector shapes stay exact. Only images are compressed, down to the resolution the page needs. ### Which compression level should I pick? Balanced suits almost every case. Light keeps the best quality. Strong makes the smallest file.
